According to milliner Deida Acero, big hats are coming back in a big way. “ The smaller hat is always going to be popular.
But I’m pleased to see the big hat make a comeback,” she said.
Although Deida can boast an enviable list of clientele including Ivan Trump and Shirley Bassey – as well as several awards, including Best Hat at the 2004 Dubai Cup, she is charmingly coy about her success. “I don’t like to say too much about the clients or awards because it doesn’t really matter. What matters is my love of design and seeing my hats on beautiful people.”
The Columbian born designer takes inspiration from her surroundings. The vivid colours and beautiful materials are inspired by nature, while clean lines and flowing movements are drawn from modern architecture. Deida said: “At the moment I love Dubai; there is a great amount of style and innovation in the new architecture. It makes for fantastic inspiration.”
